WANT.
Hats off to Geoff Sawers and Bridget Hannigan for their incredible hand-lettered poster of our literary United States. Get yours here.
We’re getting our first report back from the folks who went to the Sanitation Garage. Mayor Bloomberg’s office tweeted: “Property from #Zuccotti, incl #OWS library, safely stored @ 57th St Sanit Garage; can be picked up Weds” But it turns out, not surprisingly, that this was a lie.
Our folks on the ground say: “There are only about 25 boxes of books; many of the books are destroyed. Laptops here but destroyed. Can’t find tent or shelves.”
One of our librarians Zach came up with a partial list of what was taken and it’s looking like only a few books and our (destroyed) laptops were at Sanitation. So Mayor Bloomberg: where is the People’s Library?

Y’all may have heard of a promotion Melville House has put together to promote the tragicomic works of Andrey Kurkov, Death and the Penguin and Penguin Lost. Because they are geniuses, they decided that bookstores which sold 25 or more total copies of the books would be rewarded by having an emperor penguin adopted in their name! And because we already love these books, we’re pleased as punch to tell you that we’re participating. So if your reading list could use a little more mafia and a little more penguin (and really, why wouldn’t it), head on over.
We also decided that, once we’ve reached our goal, our penguin will be named after one of the customers who helped us get there! So make sure you put your name in in-store (if you order online, you’re covered).
We love these reviews so very very much.
Also, Boucher will be at WORD on Tuesday, August 30, reading with Emily St. John Mandel and Reif Larsen.
